The Latest Tournament Winner's Story
With a very early start, I dragged my 7 year old son Merrick out of bed in an attempt to make the start on time. Once in the water we proceeded to a new spot only shown to me by my good friend Ted. By the time we got there, with another tournament going on that day, there were at least six boats in the area. I thought I made all the right turns to get to the new “secret” spot. We set up rods of live bait out, my son on the float rig and me casting artificials. We had two reds over 6 lbs. in the boat by 9am, both hitting the live bait on the bottom. When I called Ted to tell him of our progress, I found out that I wasn’t on the secret “secret” spot after all, and ended up finding our new spot. After catching the reds we went to target Trout, and Merrick proceeded to catch one about 4 lbs. on the trusted float rig and shrimp. He just loves to watch the float go down. The trout was caught at noon with a bright sky. Unfortunately, he lost two others that were even bigger, but the fight they put up was plenty fun. The only downside was the trout didn’t make it and couldn’t be released alive, but made a great dinner. We had a great day and ended up with our first father/son 1st place win.
